Project Overview
Our class partnered up with experts in the field of neurobiology and psychology. Attending experts visits assisted in the deepening of our understanding of our teen brain health topics. In our groups, we selected and purchased a book to read that focuses on our topic. Aside from book club selection, we selected weekly articles to read to gain expertise in our topics. To design professional quality final products we presented our work to brain health professionals for critique. We had to contact an advocate/expert for our topic to interview and request professional critique on our final products.
My Group
My group's topic is Teen Depression and my group mates are...
In the beginning of the semester I didn’t know much about teen brain health let alone what being an advocate for it meant. After getting through this project I feel like I have more knowledge on both now. While reading the book for my group’s topic I couldn’t stop talking about it and all that I was learning from it. After talking about all that the book taught me so often someone reminded me that I know multiple people that could benefit from knowing what I had learned. So I decided that they were the people I needed to be telling about the book and recommend them the book. I think if people need or want to learn about depression they should definitely read “The Depression Cure”.
When I started this project I already knew some things about the brain but, during this project we made three different mind maps to show our understanding of the brain and brain health. The mind maps were a way to show our understanding by making connections to the other words or connections to our group topics. I feel like these really helped me gain a better understanding because we got the chance to make connections and develop our understanding of different words multiple times.
