In my group I was put in charge of creating an engaging activity that would bring awareness to our topic of Teen Depression. Our activity is a metaphor for depression because a lot of times people describe depression as a weight on their shoulders or a weight pulling them down. I was able to tie in information from the book we read for class “The Depression Cure” into the activity. While our volunteer does the activity we will tell them about facts and symptoms of depression and what to do if they know someone who has it. My other group mates were put in charge of making a t-shirt and a little book. We designed the little book to inform people in detail about this issue and we designed the shirts to bring awareness and lower stigma about teen depression. Want to purchase our t-shirt? Contact Mrs. Nuvia via digital portfolio or email [email protected] to purchase the shirt we’ve designed.
In my group we read a book called “The Depression Cure” and I feel like we could not have chosen a better book to read. In the book we were given so many charts, facts and, personal stories. The book is based about the idea of Therapeutic Lifestyle Change or TLC which is 6 natural things you can do to help get rid of your depression these things are sunlight exposure, physical activity, social support, omega-3 fatty acids and, an anti-ruminative activity. Doing all of these things will help you fight your depression. Before reading this book I thought if you were depressed you could just take antidepressants and you would be fine but after reading this I found out antidepressants only work about 30% of the time.
After doing our exhibition I’m really proud of how well my group worked together to get all our work done and how we all took time to talk to visitors at our booth to teach them about teen depression.
